SURVEY CREATOR

Role: Research & Design

Background

One of the core processes at Sympler was allowing clients and our market strategists to collaborate on creating survey questions. This process took place on a Google Doc, and heavily utililized the comment function. However, the company wanted to present clients with a graphical interface. I was tasked with creating a client-facing tool that preserved the functionality of the Google Doc method, while simplifying the creation process for the user.

Research

Focus Groups & Interviews

Direct discussions with stakeholders and SMEs provided initial requirements and user information. I used this information to create personas that helped determine the most important features for a minimum viable product. Users needed to be able to:

  • Read and leave comments on questions

  • Add and remove questions

  • Branch questions and set logic

  • Add and remove objectives

Contextual Inquiry & Task Analysis

The next step was to understand the current way the tasks were done. After discussions with stakeholders and observation of the survey creation process, I created a procedural task analysis for each task.

Information Architecture

I created a sitemap and prospective user flows using the information from the task analysis. Creating information architecture for something as free-form as collaborative text editing was one of the most challenging phases of this project.

Wireframing

Several wireframes were created for concept validation with stakeholders as well as for usability testing. Here are some of the wireframes created during the iterative design process.

Prototype

The wireframe was polished and turned into a prototype of the final product in Figma. I used existing brand colors and styles as inspiration.
